In an increasingly digital world, how can we create safe spaces that bring the fun and connection of online queer communities to real life?

Solution

What is Qozy?

The creation of Qozy emerged as the response to this question, providing a warm and inviting space where members of the LGBTQ+ community can gather and interact. Drawing upon insights gleaned from survey data, Qozy caters to a diverse range of interests and activities, such as indulging in café cuisine, exploring the literary collection, and engaging in board games.

The visual identity takes its cues from medieval European illustration, aiming to evoke a whimsical, storybook aesthetic that is both classic and contemporary. This deliberate fusion of traditional and modern elements serves to reinterpret the conventional heteronormative tropes found in age-old fairytales through a contemporary LGBTQ+ lens, breathing new life into these timeless narratives.

Lessons Learned & Extras

This project provided a chance to connect with a new community as I sought to create a welcoming space for the queer community, including myself and my friends. I gained insights into the community's needs, and the enthusiasm from peers solidified my commitment to Qozy's future. Special thanks to Professor Denise Anderson for her invaluable support throughout this journey.

Future vision

Expanding Qozy

In hindsight, it became evident that the establishment of a physical café was not integral to realizing Qozy's overarching vision. Moving forward, I intend to allocate additional resources towards developing public assets that empower individuals to cultivate their own local Qozy communities, thus expanding the reach and impact of this initiative.

Allowing people to bring Qozy all over the country by creating chapters.
